In daily English lessons children will have opportunity to explore different texts and different writing styles. Activities will include a balance of grammar and writing skills
The children will complete regular Big Writes in order to allow them opportunities to embed these written skills. They will also have opportunities to become more familiar with the content and style of question for the grammar SATs paper.
In daily guided reading sessions, the children will experience a range of different texts including stories, fact books and poems. They will have opportunities to explore these in detail and unpick some of the vocabulary and sentences used by the author. They will also consider the effect these have on the reader. When working with stories, the children will consider how characters develop and change and also how the reader feels about characters at different points within books.
Your child will learn spelling patterns linked to the year 6 curriculum. These will be practiced and rehearsed in school and the children will then bring home a list of spellings to learn that week.
